The Security+ training session explores industry-wide topics including communication security, infrastructure security, cryptography, access control, authentication, external attack and operational and organization security.  Information Assurance (IA) professionals will benefit from this seminar. The Security+ certification is on the approved list of certifications that meets the DoD D8570.1 requirements.  In short, the directive requires that many military personnel, government personnel, and contractors that have their hands in the networks of the military and or government must have certain certifications.  Security+ is one of these.

Topics such as STIG Content, STIG Development, STIG Tools, and Best Practices are discussed. Demonstrations of STIG Viewer, SCAP Compliance Checker (SCC), and STIG implementation will be conducted to provide the students with a real world understanding of the STIG process. The development process will also be covered to give students an idea of where STIGs come from, who creates them, and how they get published.

This one-day course is suitable for anyone wishing to gain insight into STIG content and process. It is ideally suited to those with limited exposure to STIGs … or even none at all!” The course will be taught via Online Personal ClassroomTM. This is a fully interactive, instructor-led experience. There will be an initial informational section that introduces the concepts and best practices then we will move to the screensharing capability to demo the various tools that are available. We’ll demo SCC, STIG viewer, and other tools while giving an overall approach to best practices. Specific pain points for students will be addressed, provided that it’s feasible and within the scope of the course.

Each student will gain an in depth knowledge of the relevant DoD, NIST and CNSS publications along with the practical guidance needed to implement them in the work environment. Each life cycle activity in the DoD Instruction 8510.01 (RMF for DoD IT) is covered in detail, as is each component of the corresponding documentation package. NIST Special Publication (SP) 800-53 Security Controls, along with corresponding assessment procedures, are covered in detail, as are CNSS Instruction 1253 “enhancements”. Specific attention is paid to the process of transition from DIACAP to RMF, as well as the application of the eMASS tool to various aspects of the RMF life cycle.
