What is meant by the term ‘Hybrid Encryption’?

  1. Using a combination of hasing algorithms and asymmetic keys to increase data confidentiality.
  2. Using a symmetric block cipher to produce a hashed message authenticaiton code for data signing.
  3. Using asymmetric keys to exchange symmetric keys which will then be used for bulk data encryption.
  4. Using two different hashing algorithms to increase the integrity of data.
  5. Using a ‘key stretching’ technique in order to increase the computational effort (storage or memory) that an attacker will have to exert to compromise a key.
