“I’ll sleep when I’m dead…”
Colin’s Cisco® mojo and skill with all manifestations of the Windows
operating system approaches deity status. His
love-hate relationship
with Linux is the stuff of campfire legend. Whether building the
network, locking it down or testing it’s security, he is at home in the
realm of 1’s and 0’s.
Colin also designs and deploys networks for small and medium-sized
businesses and provides consulting services to private businesses, city
governments and, larger internationally
distributed organizations. He
has also led the deployment of
single & multi-site Cisco®-based
inter-networks and has
designed, planned and deployed new Windows 2000 &
2003 Active Directory-based networks as well as several upgrades
from
NT4 to Windows 2000/2003, as well as
Exchange 2000
and
Exchange 2003.
Seldom out of arm’s reach of a computer, you will usually find Colin
adorned in Birkenstocks, shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, even when it’s
below 30 outside. From all accounts he appears to be impervious to cold
but performs poorly in times of high heat and humidity. He speaks little
when outside the classroom and may seem to be a mute unless networking
comes up as a topic of conversation. If you want to talk computers, you
will find him as chatty as an 8-year old on Christmas eve who has had too much Pepsi and forgot to take his Ritalin.
Educated: Virginia Tech, Bachelor of Science
What his education proves: Two things.
- He can stick with something for at least four years.
- He can come up with the money for said “sticking”.
Professional Certifications:
- CISSP® – Certified Information Systems Security Professional
- CEH™ – Certified Ethical Hacker
- CCNP® – Cisco® Certified Network Professional
- CCSP™ – Cisco® Certified Security Professional
- MCSE – Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer
- A bunch others that aren’t worth mentioning...
Colin has taken his CCIE written exam (the easy part) but is, at
present, being a slacker on preparing for the lab (the hard part). So,
no, he is NOT a CCIE.
What his professional certifications prove:
Two things.
- He has spent a LOT of money on tests.
- In addition to being a teacher, he is a professional student. He
calls himself a “student of the game”.
Favorite Quotes –
Two, from Carl Sagan:
- “Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.”
- "We are like the inhabitants of an isolated valley in New Guinea
who communicate with societies in neighboring valleys (quite
different societies, I might add) by runner and by drum. When
asked how a very advanced society will communicate, they might
guess by an extremely rapid runner or by an improbably large
drum. They might not guess a technology beyond their kin. And
yet, all the while, a vast international cable and radio traffic
passes over them, around them, and through them..."
